About F.A.C.T.

F.A.C.T. was formed in 2010 after our founder, Stephanie, came across a pregnant, stray cat near her home in 2008. On June 17, 2008, this mom cat (Momma) gave birth in her bedroom (with her present) to 6 beautiful kittens. She decided to keep the whole family! She realized that someone had abandoned Momma, and couldn't believe someone could do such a cruel thing to this sweet cat. This kitty family motivated her to start F.A.C.T. so she could help more cats like Momma and her babies. Because one cat and her kittens, thousands of cats have better lives.

F.A.C.T. is an all-volunteer effort. We have always been a small group, but have a passion for helping cats and have worked diligently to make as much of a difference as we can. We rely solely on donations and the occasional grant to do this life-saving work.

We started out raising awareness and educating the community about animal cruelty. In holding tabling events, we found there was a desperate need for help with stray cats, so in 2011, we became a foster-based rescue.

Over the past 15 years as a rescue, we have found homes for around 2,500 cats.

In 2016, we found there was a significant need for affordable spay/neuter and TNR resources, especially in Washington County. Farms were becoming overwhelmed after people continuously abandoned cats on their properties. We hoped to get the County board to provide funding for spay/neuter resources, but were unsuccessful in our plea. As a result, in 2017, we started a spay/neuter program. Our program provided both TNR services for feral cats, as well as spay/neuter services for owned cats. Over the years, due to budget limitations, the program has shifted to primarily providing affordable spay/neuter for owned cats. Over the past 8 years, we have fixed around 2,300 cats!

2025: When funds allow, we continue our spay/neuter program, and are also focusing our attention on advocacy efforts. It is clear we are past due for significant changes in animal welfare, and we hope to be part of creating those changes.

Although we are no longer able to bring cats into our care to find homes for, we are actively making a difference for cats in our community and beyond.
